Irving Fisher was born on September 12, 1867 in New York City. He received his Ph.D from Yale University in 1899 and a little later joined the faculty of Yale as a professor of economics. He was a member of the American Economic Association and of the American Statistical Association, and became a fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1911. He was also a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton
In 1913 he received an honorary doctorate from Yale University. In 1906 he founded The Journal of Political Economy, which is published by Yale University Press. He died on September 25, 1944.
